Help
Choose a task and follow the steps. No account is needed.
Start reading and change the appearance
- Open Texts, choose a work, then choose an edition and chapter or section.
- Use the chapter title to open the contents. The bottom arrows move to the previous or next chapter.
- Open Appearance in the bottom toolbar to adjust the reading display.
Edition labels identify the translation or source text. Numbering can differ between editions; keep the edition name when citing a passage.
Find a passage, phrase or reference
- Open Search and enter words, a text name or a reference, such as mercy or John 3:16.
- Choose a result type. Use Advanced search to narrow the tradition, text or edition.
- Open a result to read it in context. Page controls move through the results; the outer arrows go to the first and last pages.
Search coverage depends on the available editions and languages. To search only the chapters already open, use Reading tools → Find in text.
Read two editions together
- Open Parallel reading in the reading toolbar and choose another text or edition.
- Use Choose text to change the partner text or chapter. On a phone, open the options beside the edition tabs.
- Turn Sync on when it is available to follow matched passages or chapters. Turn it off to move independently.
- On a narrow screen, switch between the two edition tabs. On a wider screen, the texts appear side by side.
Sync uses available passage or chapter correspondences. Different numbering does not always mean different content, and a chapter match does not guarantee a verse-by-verse match.
Find words in the open text or mark a chapter as read
- Open Reading tools. During parallel reading, Apply to starts with Both texts; change it if needed.
- Choose Find in text and enter a word, part of a word or a continuous phrase. Results show five per page.
- Select a result to move to its passage, or choose Search all texts for a wider search.
Mark as read records your choice; scrolling does not mark a chapter automatically. With Both texts selected, the action applies to both open chapters. You can also mark chapters as unread.
Highlight words, save a bookmark or write a note
- Select words in a chapter. On a phone, long-press and adjust the selection handles; you can also select a passage number.
- Choose Highlight or Note from the selection toolbar. More contains bookmark, citation and comparison actions.
- For a note in the reader, enter your writing and choose Save. Wait for the saved state before leaving. Use Reselect only to change the attached passage.
- Open highlighted words or a note’s underline to return to its actions. Your saved items also appear in My Library.
Highlights and notes are separate. Removing a highlight keeps its note. Overlapping marks of the same type merge within the same edition and chapter; separate phrases can remain separate. Selections do not span chapters or editions.
Deletion differs by location: deleting an item in My Library moves it to Trash. Removing a highlight in the reader is permanent; deleting a reader note asks for confirmation and does not send it to Trash.
Organize notes, notebooks and Trash
- Open My Library and choose Notes, Highlights, Bookmarks or Comparisons. Search or filter the list to find an item.
- Use an item’s menu to add it to a notebook. Choose an existing notebook, or create one at the end of the chooser.
- Open a note to edit it. Writing in My Library saves automatically; save errors appear when attention is needed.
- Use the notebook’s menu to rename or delete the notebook. Removing a notebook keeps its items.
Notebook items are links to the same saved material, not separate copies. Remove from notebook removes only that association.
In Trash, use an item’s menu to restore or permanently delete it. Long content can be expanded in the list. Empty trash removes all trashed items after confirmation, including items hidden by a filter. Keep a backup before deleting material you may need.
Save excerpts and compare them
- While reading, select words and choose More → Add to comparison.
- Choose an existing comparison or create one. Each comparison holds up to four excerpts.
- Open it from My Library to read the excerpts together and write comparison notes. Its title and notes save automatically.
- Use an excerpt’s menu to change its order, remove it, or Read in context. Add further excerpts from the reader.
Use comparisons for selected passages and your observations. Use parallel reading for continuous reading of two editions.
Explore a story or a question
- Open Explore and choose Read a story or Explore a question.
- In All stories, search by title, person or setting. The Text field accepts typing. On a phone, open Filters, choose your conditions, then Show results.
- Open a guide or reading outline. A complete guide explains the reading; an outline points to its main passages. Story results show up to nine per page.
- Choose Read passage to open the cited edition. Highlighting, notes and comparisons are available there.
Guides are editorial explanations, not scripture. Later commentary and traditional stories are labeled separately. Sources and reading notes appear with each guide.
Use the map, timeline and event details
- Open Places & history. Choose Story places for narrative settings or Historical events for dated records.
- Search, or use the filters to narrow the results. Choose List/Timeline or Map.
- On a phone, a numbered map marker groups nearby items. Tap it and choose a title, or zoom in to separate the markers.
- Open a place or event for its explanation, related readings and sources. The Back button returns to your map or selected list entry.
Some records have no reliable map position. Use the list or timeline to see all results. A marker can represent a broad region, a traditional association or a modern collection site; read the location notes before interpreting it. Dates may be approximate or disputed.
Back up your library or move to another browser
- In the original browser, open My Library → Backup & export → Export JSON. Keep the file somewhere safe.
- In the destination browser, open Backup & export → Import backup and choose that file.
- Review the confirmation. Import replaces the destination library, so export its current contents first if you need them.
- Check your notes, notebooks and comparisons before clearing data in the original browser.
Safari, Chrome, other devices and different site addresses keep separate libraries. There is no automatic synchronization. Private browsing or clearing site data can remove your library.
Export Markdown produces a readable document, not a file you can import to restore the library. Previously exported files are not changed when you delete an item on the site.
Something is not working
- A note still says Unsaved changes: keep the editor open and copy your writing somewhere safe. Do not clear site data. Report the page link, device, browser and steps through Contact.
- Saved items seem missing: check that you are using the same browser and site address, and that a filter or Trash is not hiding them. Import a JSON backup if the original browser data is gone.
- A map does not load: use List or Timeline; places and events remain available without the map.
- A passage looks different: check the edition, chapter and numbering. Compare its source record before reporting a transcription issue.
Report a text, source or accessibility issue
Contact the project with the page link, the wording or action involved, and a supporting source or the steps that reproduce the problem. Avoid sending private notes or a full backup unless necessary.
