Terms of use

Updated November 6, 2026

These terms describe the use of Sacred Text Compass, a free platform for reading and exploring sacred texts.

Reading and interpretation

Texts, translations, historical material and editorial guides are offered for reading and study. A guide or comparison is not a definitive interpretation of a tradition or a substitute for checking the cited sources. Transcriptions, historical claims and software may contain errors. Source records describe known limitations; no religious or scholarly endorsement is implied.

Text and data rights

Ancient works, modern translations, digital transcriptions, annotations and datasets can have different rights. Access to this site does not grant a blanket license to republish its contents. Follow the attribution, reuse and other conditions in Sources & Licensing and the linked publisher records. Some materials have noncommercial or share-alike conditions; public-domain statements may be jurisdiction-specific.

When reusing excerpts, retain their edition, source and applicable licensing information. Your own notes do not change the rights in quoted material. The site’s brand and original editorial material are not covered by a source text’s license merely because they appear on the same page.

External links

Source links may lead to third-party sites with their own terms and privacy practices. A link identifies evidence or reading material; it does not imply endorsement or guarantee continued availability.

Your notes and backups

Your personal writing remains yours. Library information is saved in your browser and can be lost when site data is cleared, a device fails or an address changes. Make regular JSON backups. Importing a backup replaces the destination library; export it first if you need to keep it. See backup help and Privacy.

Using the service responsibly

Do not interfere with the site’s operation or access controls, misrepresent source authorship or licenses, or use its name to suggest an endorsement. Automated access must respect applicable source permissions and avoid disrupting the service.

Availability and corrections

Features and available editions may change. Existing source records and limitations should be checked before relying on a passage or reusing it. Report technical problems, corrections or rights concerns through Contact. These terms do not remove rights that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.
