Lingbao develops a communal ritual tradition
397–402 CE
The Lingbao scriptures associated with Ge Chaofu drew together several Daoist traditions while incorporating Buddhist elements. They emphasized communal ritual and a broad vision of salvation. Priests and their ceremonies occupied a central position in this developing religious framework.
Why it matters
Religious exchange produced new forms of practice without erasing distinct traditions; Lingbao demonstrates the creative relationship between textual innovation and communal worship.
