Sun Bu’er teaches in Luoyang
1179 CE
Sun Bu’er moved to Luoyang and attracted disciples after participating in early Quanzhen circles. Remembered among the Seven Perfected, she became a model of female religious practice. Later texts attributed to her require separate historical assessment from the writings plausibly connected with her life.
Why it matters
Her career makes women’s teaching authority visible while distinguishing a historical practitioner from the expanding body of literature and legend attached to her.
