iti1:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
iti1:2.1“Mendicants, give up one thing
iti1:2.2and I guarantee you non-return.
iti1:2.3What one thing?
iti1:2.4Greed is the one thing. Give it up,
iti1:2.5and I guarantee you non-return.”
iti1:2.6The Buddha spoke this matter.
iti1:2.7On this it is said:
iti1:3.1“When overcome by greed
iti1:3.2beings go to a bad place.
iti1:3.3Having rightly understood that greed,
iti1:3.4the discerning give it up.
iti1:3.5Once they’ve given it up,
iti1:3.6they never return to this world.”
iti1:4.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
