iti8:0.2The Book of the Ones

iti8:0.3Chapter One

iti8:0.4Complete Understanding of Conceit

iti8:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti8:2.1“Mendicants, without directly knowing and completely understanding conceit, without dispassion for it and giving it up, you can’t end suffering.

iti8:2.2By directly knowing and completely understanding conceit, having dispassion for it and giving it up, you can end suffering.”

iti8:2.3The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti8:2.4On this it is said:

iti8:3.1“These folk are caught up in conceit,

iti8:3.2tied by conceit, delighting in existence.

iti8:3.3Not completely understanding conceit,

iti8:3.4they return in future lives.

iti8:4.1Those who have given up conceit,

iti8:4.2freed with the ending of conceit,

iti8:4.3vanquishers of the tie of conceit,

iti8:4.4have risen above all suffering.”

iti8:5.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
