iti96:0.3Chapter Five

iti96:0.4Yoked to Sensual Pleasures

iti96:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti96:2.1“Mendicants, one yoked to both sensual pleasures and rebirth is a returner, who comes back to this place.

iti96:2.2One unyoked from sensual pleasures but still yoked to rebirth is a non-returner, who comes not back to this place.

iti96:2.3One unyoked from both sensual pleasures and rebirth is a perfected one, who has ended defilements.”

iti96:2.4The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti96:2.5On this it is said:

iti96:3.1“Yoked to both sensual pleasures

iti96:3.2and the desire to be reborn in a future life;

iti96:3.3sentient beings continue to transmigrate,

iti96:3.4with ongoing birth and death.

iti96:4.1Those who’ve given up sensual pleasures

iti96:4.2without attaining the end of defilements,

iti96:4.3and are still yoked to being reborn,

iti96:4.4are said to be non-returners.

iti96:5.1Those who have cut off doubt,

iti96:5.2and ended conceit and future lives,

iti96:5.3they’re the ones in this world who’ve truly crossed over,

iti96:5.4having reached the ending of defilements.”

iti96:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
