ud2.5:0.2A Lay Follower
ud2.5:1.1So I have heard.
ud2.5:1.2At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.
ud2.5:1.3Now at that time a certain lay follower from Icchānaṅgalaka arrived at Sāvatthī on some business.
ud2.5:1.4Having concluded his business in Sāvatthī he went to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side.
ud2.5:1.5The Buddha said this to him:
ud2.5:1.6“It’s been a long time, lay follower, since you took the opportunity to come here.”
ud2.5:2.1“For a long time I’ve wanted to come and see the Buddha, but I wasn’t able, being prevented by my many duties and responsibilities.”
ud2.5:3.1Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha expressed this heartfelt sentiment:
ud2.5:4.1“One who has nothing is happy indeed,
ud2.5:4.2a learned person who has appraised the teaching.
ud2.5:4.3See how troubled are those with attachments,
ud2.5:4.4a person bound tight to people.”
