ud7.4:0.2Clinging (2nd)
ud7.4:1.1So I have heard.
ud7.4:1.2At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery.
ud7.4:1.3Now at that time most of the people in Sāvatthī clung to sensual pleasures. Lustful, greedy, tied, infatuated, attached, and blinded, they lived completely addicted to sensual pleasures.
ud7.4:2.1Then the Buddha robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms.
ud7.4:2.2He saw how attached the humans were.
ud7.4:3.1Then, understanding this matter, on that occasion the Buddha expressed this heartfelt sentiment:
ud7.4:4.1“Blinded by sensual pleasures, wrapped in a net,
ud7.4:4.2they are smothered over by craving;
ud7.4:4.3bound by the kinsman of the negligent,
ud7.4:4.4like a fish caught in a funnel-net trap.
ud7.4:4.5They chase old age and death,
ud7.4:4.6like a suckling calf its mother.”
