The Baal Shem Tov gathers a Hasidic circle
1740s–1760 CE
Israel ben Eliezer, known as the Baal Shem Tov, taught and gathered followers in Mezhibush. His disciples transmitted teachings that helped shape Hasidism. The movement’s devotional emphasis attracted supporters and opposition, and its later communities grew through the work of successive teachers.
