iti112:0.1So It Was Said 112
iti112:0.2The Book of the Fours
iti112:0.3The Chapter on the Brahmin’s Offering of the Teaching
iti112:0.4The World
iti112:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
iti112:2.1“Mendicants, the world has been understood by the Realized One;
iti112:2.2and he is detached from the world.
iti112:2.3The origin of the world has been understood by the Realized One;
iti112:2.4and he has given up the origin of the world.
iti112:2.5The cessation of the world has been understood by the Realized One;
iti112:2.6and he has realized the cessation of the world.
iti112:2.7The practice that leads to the cessation of the world has been understood by the Realized One;
iti112:2.8and he has developed the practice that leads to the cessation of the world.
iti112:3.1In this world—with its gods, Māras, and divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humans—whatever is seen, heard, thought, known, attained, sought, and explored by the mind, all that has been understood by the Realized One.
iti112:3.2That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
iti112:4.1From the night when the Realized One awakens to the supreme perfect awakening until the night he becomes fully extinguished—in the element of extinguishment with no residue—everything he speaks, says, and expresses is real, not otherwise.
iti112:4.2That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
iti112:5.1The Realized One does as he says, and says as he does.
iti112:5.2Since this is so,
iti112:5.3that’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.
iti112:6.1In this world—with its gods, Māras, and divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, gods and humans—the Realized One is the vanquisher, the unvanquished, the universal seer, the wielder of power.
iti112:6.2That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.”
iti112:6.3The Buddha spoke this matter.
iti112:6.4On this it is said:
iti112:7.1“Directly knowing the whole world as it is,
iti112:7.2and everything in it,
iti112:7.3he is detached from the whole world,
iti112:7.4uninvolved with the whole world.
iti112:8.1That attentive one is the vanquisher of all
iti112:8.2who is released from all ties.
iti112:8.3He has reached ultimate peace:
iti112:8.4extinguishment, fearing nothing from any quarter.
iti112:9.1He is the Buddha, with defilements ended,
iti112:9.2untroubled, with doubts cut off.
iti112:9.3He has attained the end of all deeds,
iti112:9.4freed with the ending of attachments.
iti112:10.1That Blessed One is the Buddha,
iti112:10.2he is the supreme lion,
iti112:10.3in all the world with its gods,
iti112:10.4he turns the divine wheel.
iti112:11.1And so those gods and humans,
iti112:11.2who have gone to the Buddha for refuge,
iti112:11.3come together and revere him,
iti112:11.4even the deities revere him:
iti112:12.1‘Tamed, he is the best of tamers,
iti112:12.2peaceful, he is the seer among the peaceful,
iti112:12.3liberated, he is the foremost of liberators,
iti112:12.4crossed over, he is the most excellent of guides across.’
iti112:13.1And so they revere him,
iti112:13.2great of heart and intrepid.
iti112:13.3In the world with its gods,
iti112:13.4he has no rival.”
iti112:14.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
iti112:17.5The So it Was Said is finished.
