iti40:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti40:0.3Chapter Two

iti40:0.4Knowledge

iti40:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti40:2.1“Mendicants, ignorance leads the attainment of unskillful qualities, with lack of conscience and prudence following along.

iti40:2.2Knowledge leads the attainment of skillful qualities, with conscience and prudence following along.”

iti40:2.3The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti40:2.4On this it is said:

iti40:3.1“Bad destinies of whatever kind,

iti40:3.2in this world or the next,

iti40:3.3are all rooted in ignorance,

iti40:3.4compounded of greed and desire.

iti40:4.1Since one of corrupt wishes is

iti40:4.2unconscientious, lacking regard for others,

iti40:4.3they brim with much wickedness,

iti40:4.4which sends them to a place of loss.

iti40:5.1Therefore, dispelling desire

iti40:5.2and greed and ignorance,

iti40:5.3a mendicant arousing knowledge

iti40:5.4would abandon all bad destinies.”

iti40:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
