iti41:0.1So It Was Said 41

iti41:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti41:0.3Chapter Two

iti41:0.4Bereft of Wisdom

iti41:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti41:2.1“Those sentient beings are truly bereft, mendicants, who are bereft of noble wisdom.

iti41:2.2They live unhappily in this very life—with distress, anguish, and fever—

iti41:2.3and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a bad rebirth.

iti41:2.4Those sentient beings are not bereft who are not bereft of noble wisdom.

iti41:2.5In this very life they’re happy—free of distress, anguish, and fever—

iti41:2.6and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a good rebirth.”

iti41:2.7The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti41:2.8On this it is said:

iti41:3.1“See the world with its gods,

iti41:3.2bereft of wisdom,

iti41:3.3habituated to name and form,

iti41:3.4imagining this is truth.

iti41:4.1Wisdom is best in the world,

iti41:4.2as it leads to penetration,

iti41:4.3through which one rightly understands

iti41:4.4the ending of rebirth and continued existence.

iti41:5.1Gods and humans envy them,

iti41:5.2the Buddhas, ever mindful,

iti41:5.3of laughing wisdom,

iti41:5.4bearing their final body.”

iti41:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
