iti46:0.3Chapter Two

iti46:0.4The Benefits of Training

iti46:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti46:2.1“Mendicants, live with training as benefit, with wisdom as overseer, with freedom as core, and with mindfulness as ruler.

iti46:2.2A mendicant who lives in this way can expect one of two results:

iti46:2.3enlightenment in this very life, or if there’s residue left behind, non-return.”

iti46:2.4The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti46:2.5On this it is said:

iti46:3.1“The training fulfilled, not liable to decline,

iti46:3.2overseen by wisdom, seer of rebirth’s end;

iti46:3.3that sage bears their final body;

iti46:3.4they have disposed of Māra, I declare, and gone beyond old age.

iti46:4.1Therefore be always enjoying absorption, immersed in samādhi,

iti46:4.2energetic, seers of rebirth’s end.

iti46:4.3Having overcome Māra and his armies, mendicants,

iti46:4.4go beyond birth and death.”

iti46:5.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
