iti47:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti47:0.3Chapter Two

iti47:0.4Wake Up

iti47:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti47:2.1“A mendicant should meditate wakeful, mendicants, mindful and aware, joyful and clear, and at times discern the skillful qualities in that state.

iti47:2.2A mendicant who meditates in this way can expect one of two results:

iti47:2.3enlightenment in this very life, or if there’s residue left behind, non-return.”

iti47:2.4The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti47:2.5On this it is said:

iti47:3.1“Listen up, wakeful ones!

iti47:3.2And those asleep, wake up!

iti47:3.3Wakefulness is better than sleep,

iti47:3.4the wakeful have nothing to fear.

iti47:4.1Those who are wakeful, mindful and aware,

iti47:4.2immersed in samādhi, joyful and clear,

iti47:4.3rightly investigating the Dhamma in good time,

iti47:4.4at one, would banish the darkness.

iti47:5.1That’s why you should apply yourself to wakefulness.

iti47:5.2A keen and alert mendicant, possessing absorption,

iti47:5.3having cut the fetter of birth and old age,

iti47:5.4would experience supreme awakening in this very life.”

iti47:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
