iti48:0.1So It Was Said 48

iti48:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti48:0.3Chapter Two

iti48:0.4Bound for Loss

iti48:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti48:2.1“Mendicants, these two are bound for a place of loss, bound for hell, if they don’t give up this fault.

iti48:2.2What two?

iti48:2.3Someone who is unchaste, but claims to be chaste; and someone who makes a groundless accusation of unchastity against a person whose chastity is pure.

iti48:2.4These are the two who are bound for a place of loss, bound for hell, if they don’t give up this fault.”

iti48:2.5The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti48:2.6On this it is said:

iti48:3.1“A liar goes to hell,

iti48:3.2as does one who denies what they did.

iti48:3.3Both are equal in the hereafter,

iti48:3.4those men of base deeds.

iti48:4.1Many who wear a scrap of ocher cloth

iti48:4.2are unrestrained and wicked.

iti48:4.3Being wicked, they are reborn in hell

iti48:4.4due to their bad deeds.

iti48:5.1It’d be better for the immoral and unrestrained

iti48:5.2to eat an iron ball,

iti48:5.3scorching, like a burning flame,

iti48:5.4than to eat the nation’s alms.”

iti48:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
