iti17:0.2The Book of the Ones

iti17:0.3Chapter Two

iti17:0.4A Trainee (2nd)

iti17:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti17:2.1“Taking into account exterior factors, mendicants, I do not see a single one that is so very helpful as good friendship for a trainee mendicant who hasn’t achieved their heart’s desire, but lives aspiring to the supreme sanctuary from the yoke.

iti17:2.2A mendicant who has good friends gives up the unskillful and develops the skillful.”

iti17:2.3The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti17:2.4On this it is said:

iti17:3.1“A mendicant with good friends

iti17:3.2is reverential and respectful

iti17:3.3when their friends are speaking,

iti17:3.4aware and mindful.

iti17:3.5Gradually they would attain

iti17:3.6the ending of all fetters.”

iti17:4.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
