iti18:0.1So It Was Said 18

iti18:0.2The Book of the Ones

iti18:0.3Chapter Two

iti18:0.4Schism in the Saṅgha

iti18:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti18:2.1“One thing, mendicants, arises in the world for the detriment and unhappiness of the people, against the people, for the harm, detriment, and suffering of gods and humans.

iti18:2.2What one thing?

iti18:2.3Schism in the Saṅgha.

iti18:2.4When the Saṅgha is split, they argue, insult, block, and forsake each other.

iti18:2.5This doesn’t inspire confidence in those without it, and it causes some with confidence to change their minds.”

iti18:2.6The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti18:2.7On this it is said:

iti18:3.1“A schismatic remains for the eon

iti18:3.2in a place of loss, in hell.

iti18:3.3Taking a stand against the teaching,

iti18:3.4favoring factions, they ruin their sanctuary.

iti18:3.5After causing schism in a harmonious Saṅgha,

iti18:3.6they burn in hell for an eon.”

iti18:4.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
