iti20:0.3Chapter Two

iti20:0.4A Corrupted Mind

iti20:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti20:2.1“Mendicants, when I’ve comprehended the mind of an individual whose mind is corrupted, I understand:

iti20:2.2‘If this individual were to die right now, they would be placed in hell as if delivered there.’

iti20:2.3Why is that?

iti20:2.4Because their mind is corrupted.

iti20:2.5Corruption of mind is the reason why some sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell.”

iti20:2.6The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti20:2.7On this it is said:

iti20:3.1“Knowing an individual’s

iti20:3.2corrupted mind,

iti20:3.3the Buddha explained this matter

iti20:3.4in the mendicants’ presence.

iti20:4.1If that individual

iti20:4.2were to die at this time,

iti20:4.3they’d be reborn in hell,

iti20:4.4for their mind is corrupted.

iti20:5.1That sort is cast down as surely

iti20:5.2as if they’d been carried off and put there.

iti20:5.3For corruption of mind is the reason

iti20:5.4sentient beings go to a bad place.”

iti20:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
