iti29:0.3Chapter One

iti29:0.4Living in Happiness

iti29:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti29:2.1“Mendicants, when a mendicant has two qualities they live happily in this very life—without distress, anguish, and fever—

iti29:2.2and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a good rebirth.

iti29:2.3What two?

iti29:2.4Guarding the sense doors and moderation in eating.

iti29:2.5When a mendicant possesses these two qualities they live happily in this very life—without distress, anguish, and fever—

iti29:2.6and when the body breaks up, after death, they can expect a good rebirth.”

iti29:2.7The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti29:2.8On this it is said:

iti29:3.1“Eye, ear, nose,

iti29:3.2tongue, body, and likewise mind:

iti29:3.3a mendicant who makes these

iti29:3.4sense doors well guarded—

iti29:4.1eating in moderation,

iti29:4.2restrained in the sense faculties—

iti29:4.3reaps happiness

iti29:4.4both physical and mental.

iti29:5.1Not burning in body,

iti29:5.2not burning in mind,

iti29:5.3by day or by night

iti29:5.4such a person lives in happiness.”

iti29:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
