iti30:0.1So It Was Said 30

iti30:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti30:0.3Chapter One

iti30:0.4Mortifying

iti30:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti30:2.1“These two things, mendicants, are mortifying.

iti30:2.2What two?

iti30:2.3It’s when someone hasn’t done good and skillful things that keep them safe, but has done bad things, violence and sin.

iti30:2.4Thinking, ‘I haven’t done good things’, they’re mortified. Thinking, ‘I have done bad things’, they’re mortified.

iti30:2.5These are the two things that are mortifying.”

iti30:2.6The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti30:2.7On this it is said:

iti30:3.1“Having done bad things

iti30:3.2by way of body,

iti30:3.3speech, and mind,

iti30:3.4and whatever else is corrupt;

iti30:4.1not having done good deeds,

iti30:4.2and having done many bad,

iti30:4.3when their body breaks up, that witless person

iti30:4.4is reborn in hell.”

iti30:5.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
