iti34:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti34:0.3Chapter One

iti34:0.4Keen

iti34:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti34:2.1“Mendicants, without being keen and prudent a mendicant can’t achieve awakening, extinguishment, and the supreme sanctuary from the yoke.

iti34:2.2But if a mendicant is keen and prudent they can achieve awakening, extinguishment, and the supreme sanctuary from the yoke.”

iti34:2.3The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti34:2.4On this it is said:

iti34:3.1“Neither keen nor prudent,

iti34:3.2lazy, lacking energy,

iti34:3.3full of dullness and drowsiness,

iti34:3.4unconscientious, lacking regard for others,

iti34:3.5such a mendicant is incapable

iti34:3.6of experiencing the highest awakening.

iti34:4.1One who is mindful, alert, meditative,

iti34:4.2keen, prudent, and diligent,

iti34:4.3having cut the fetter of birth and old age,

iti34:4.4would experience supreme awakening in this very life.”

iti34:5.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
