iti43:0.1So It Was Said 43

iti43:0.2The Book of the Twos

iti43:0.3Chapter Two

iti43:0.4Free of Rebirth

iti43:1.1This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

iti43:2.1“There is, mendicants, freedom from rebirth, freedom from what has been produced, made, and conditioned.

iti43:2.2If there were no freedom from rebirth, freedom from what has been produced, made, and conditioned, then you would find no escape here from rebirth, from what has been produced, made, and conditioned.

iti43:2.3But since there is freedom from rebirth, freedom from what has been produced, made, and conditioned, an escape is found from rebirth, from what has been produced, made, and conditioned.”

iti43:2.4The Buddha spoke this matter.

iti43:2.5On this it is said:

iti43:3.1“What’s reborn, produced, and arisen,

iti43:3.2made, conditioned, not lasting,

iti43:3.3wrapped in old age and death,

iti43:3.4frail, a nest of disease,

iti43:4.1whose inception is the leash to food:

iti43:4.2that’s not fit to delight in.

iti43:4.3The escape from that is peaceful,

iti43:4.4beyond the scope of logic, everlasting,

iti43:5.1where nothing is reborn or arisen,

iti43:5.2the sorrowless, stainless state,

iti43:5.3the cessation of all painful things,

iti43:5.4the blissful stilling of conditions.”

iti43:6.1This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
